Jess WestburyJess Westbury is our Room Leader at Bumpkins Pre School.

When did you join Bumpkins? I started in 2008 for holiday cover when I was a student studying Childhood Studies at Nottingham Trent University.
Why did you choose childcare as a career?  I was the eldest in a huge extended family of 17 cousins!  A friend’s mum inspired me when she told me about her career in childcare.

Tell us about you role at Bumpkins now I am the Room Leader at Pre-school, and I get to meet parents at drop-off or pick-up times.

As well as my day to day activities, I plan the annual Bumpkins Sports Day, the pre-school activities, and liaise with the primary schools when the children are due to move up to School.
I’m the Pre-school SENCO, and help over at the main site too.

What do you particularly enjoy about your role?

I love interacting with the pre-school age group and seeing their personalities and characters develop!  It’s so rewarding, and I learn from them too,  particularly about dinosaurs!  I also love seeing the children head off into the world ready for school, but find it hard too.  I’ve known many of your children since they were babies!

What are your achievements this year

I loved implementing “My Road to School” which gives children and parents a really clear and simple guideline on how they can best prepare for starting school.  For example; Can you use a knife and fork? Can you put your own shoes and socks on? Are you able to sit and listen for a short while?

I’ve enjoyed creating the Leaver’s Book where all the children add their own entries to create their very own special story book, a wonderful memento of their time at Bumpkins, which will be presented to them at their Leaver’s Party.
