Moving on to School

The Bumpkins Pre-School prepares the children for moving on to school.  The emphasis is on individual development and we take a child-led approach.

The Pre-School is situated in a separate building at the far end of the village.  It’s a very private, safe space with a huge play area and a grass meadow of over half an acre that is entirely for our children’s use.  We get outside as much as we can.

Our Pre-Schoolers enjoy following “My Road to School”.  This is our own version of the Government-supported initiative which prepares children for their move on to school.  The children will start to change for PE, put their coats on and take them off, change their shoes, concentrate on activities and listen to instructions and all the other skills that will enable them to become more independent at school.

Of course, all children learn at different speeds, so we are always on hand to discuss your own child’s progress with you.

Many of our children move on to local schools and we have good links with the teaching staff who often visit the children in the Pre-School before their start date. Some children enrol at private schools, so we are experienced in supporting visits by teachers from these schools and any entrance interview that your child may have to attend.

In the last few years children from Bumpkins have gone to the following schools:

Babraham, Barrington, Bourne, Elizabeth Warburton, Fowlmere, Foxton, Harston & Newton, Haslingfield, Kings Hedges, Melbourn, Meldreth, Orwell, Bassingbourn, Petersfield, Cambourne, Papworth, Steeple Morden, Guilden Morden, Icknield Walk, Tannery Drift, Studlands Rise, St Mary’s RC School, St Edmund’s, St Faith’s, St Mary’s, Pelican, St John’s College, Kings College, Stapleford, Studlands Rise, Swavesey, Therfield, The Vine and Kimbolton.
