Hello! You do not need to print this information – it is given to you when your tour Bumpkins before joining us and again, as your child starts in the Grasshopper and Dragonfly rooms with us.  We’re sharing this information with you online, so that you can find out more about Bumpkins before you come for your initial visit or to refresh yourself on anything room related as your child grows.  Of course, there’s no substitute for either booking a tour of the nursery, or if you are already a Bumpkins family, chatting with your child’s key worker next time you are doing drop off or collection.  There’s no question too large or too small.  We love to help.

Untitled designWelcome to the Grasshopper and Dragonfly Rooms – our two pre-school rooms here at Bumpkins.  Our younger children can be found in the Grasshopper room and the Dragonfly room is for children in their final year with us before they start school

This page is here to tell you about the Pre-School day and outlines routine activities, which you may find useful as your child prepares to join us.   Hopefully all of your questions will be answered but if there is anything you feel we should add to this pack please speak to Donna, Jess, or your child’s key worker.  We want this information to be as supportive as possible and would really appreciate your feedback.

Bumpkins Pre-School, Bumpkins Nursery, Whaddon, Royston

During your child’s time in the Grasshopper and Dragonfly rooms we aim to extend their learning and encourage them to become more independent in preparation for their move to school. Our aim is to provide an environment where the children have opportunities to extend their learning by taking part in challenging and exciting activities.

When planning for the children, we work within the EYFS and implement learning opportunities through planned adult-led and child initiated activities. We follow a theme each week and celebrate various festivals and celebrations to support the children’s knowledge and understanding of the world.Bumpkins Pre-School, Nursery, EYFS, Whaddon, Royston

We send out regular newsletters to share with you the activities the children are enjoying or working on during their time at Pre-School.

Learning and Development Summary

We observe each child, record their progress and set next steps on our planning record to encourage each individual child’s development and learning.  You are welcome to look at your child’s folder at any time.  Please ask Donna or Jess or your child’s key person.

Your child’s key person will focus on their individual development during their time at Pre School, extending their learning by participating in activities based around their particular needs.

Self registration

We encourage the children to register themselves into nursery by taking their name tag from their peg and placing it on our name felt board.

Drawer, Peg and Shoes

When your child begins their visits to the Pre School they will be given a peg, shoe box and drawer, all of which will show their name. The drawers are used for all art work and belongings and the contents can be taken home each day.

Weather and date board

Just as in the Butterfly Room, we continue to discuss the weather and date each day at register time. We encourage the children to sit as a group, offering support to those children who need it.

Weekend Board

The weekend board is great for recording your child’s moments achieved at home, including what they have enjoyed doing at the weekend.  We use this to help us include the children’s interests from home into our planning.  We are aware that children have different interests in different environments and we see this as a way of extending their experiences. We share the children’s weekend news at circle times and encourage them to talk to their friends about it.

Raymond

Raymond is our toy dog who enjoys going home with the children at the weekends.  The children take it in turns each week to take Raymond home to have adventures with him. He has a diary that we ask the parents to fill in to tell us what Raymond has got up to.  When he returns to Pre-School we all share his news with the other children during circle time.  Raymond is looking forward to lots of new adventures in the weeks to come.

Family Events

We hold family events during the year including sports day in the summer.

During September, after your child has left for school we like to hold a goodbye party for them where we have a final fun and games afternoon before they move on to enjoy their new experiences.

School

Moving on from Pre-School can be a daunting time for your child and we like to help support this by providing activities and resources on the lead up to leaving for school.  Bumpkins have close links with local schools and, with parent’s consent, we invite Reception teachers to meet the children in the comfort of their Pre-School setting.  As the time for moving to school gets closer, we offer the children school uniform to dress up in and show them pictures of the schools they will attend.
