FAQ – Here’s our FAQ section, for you to discover all you need to know about life at Bumpkins.  If you can’t see what you are looking for – please ask!

There’s so much that we’re asked by parents and parents-to-be about Bumpkins!!

Why should I bring my child to Bumpkins?

We are parents too, and we know from personal experience just how important it is to find the right care for your baby, toddler or Pre-schooler. Quite simply Bumpkins is the nursery that our founder and former owner, Michaela, wanted for her own children but couldn’t find!

Do you have a waiting list?

Yes! If you are pregnant and considering your childcare options for once you return to work, please feel free to call us for an initial chat. In our experience, the best nurseries can get booked up a year in advance. That’s why we always say that we’re good at keeping a secret – people regularly come for a tour at Bumpkins before they’ve even had their first scan! Read more here.

What do I need to do before booking my baby in?

One of the first things you might like to do is take a look at our brochure as it will give you a taster of what Bumpkins is all about.  You can download the brochure from here or we can send you a copy if you prefer. Please use the Contact Us page on the website and fill in your details.

When are you open?

7.30 am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday, except for UK Bank Holidays and between Christmas and New Year.

Where are you?

We are in a village that is very easy to find, just off the A1198. Bumpkins is 10 mins drive from Wimpole Hall, 7 mins drive from Royston Tesco. See a map and further directions here.

How much are the fees?

You can download the current fees, terms and conditions here. If you aren’t able to download them please contact us and in the message box ask for a copy of the Fee Sheet.

Can I come and visit?

The best way to get to know us, is to visit Bumpkins– to get a feel for who we are, how we do things and to see if you and your child will be happy with us. We operate an “Open Door policy” and once your child is here you are welcome to come in anytime and see them, be part of their day and get to know the staff. We want you to feel as much a part of Bumpkins as your child does. When you join us you will have your fingerprint recorded, which allows you to open the main door into nursery on the days your child is booked into Bumpkins. If you don’t sign in properly then you can’t get out. This keeps our children safe and protected. Anybody who is not fingerprinted has to ring a bell. This way we control (at all times) who is in and out of the building.

What will my child need to bring to Bumpkins?

We ask you to provide a coat, hat and gloves in the Winter and sun hats and sun cream in the Summer. Welly boots are an all year round essential item at Bumpkins and you will need to ensure your child has soft slippers for indoors.

Please supply milk for your child in whatever form you offer at home, until they are old enough for cow’s milk, which we supply. Take a look at our feeding policy to understand how we check and keep the babies milk safe. If you are breastfeeding and want to come in and feed your baby during the day then you are welcome to do so. We will even supply you with a beautiful feeding rocking chair to use. Our little babies get rocked and cuddled in one of the two rocking chairs in our baby room. We will also ask you to provide nappies.

I would like a Career in Childcare, how do I apply to work at Bumpkins?

Please call Nessa Taylor, Nursery Manager on (01223) 208777 for an informal chat. We sometimes have vacancies for part-time or full-time staff.

We are currently expanding and looking for Qualified Staff, Level 2 or Level 3 and above.

If you are unqualified it is possible to work at Bumpkins and gain  your experience and skills in-house and then by studying at work you can gain your qualifications.  We have only a few unqualified roles at Bumpkins but if you are an exceptional candidate and know this is the career for you then do call us.

If you are currently at College and looking for a work placement then please do contact us, many of our staff joined us while they were at College and are now several  years and lots of hard work later they have become part of our Senior Management Team.

Can we still be friends?

Families love Bumpkins; our Facebook page is filled with news about children who were first through our doors in 2000, who are turning into people that society can be proud of. Those parents still maintain contact with us and are still part of the extended Bumpkins family. Our last reunion saw 400 people celebrating Bumpkins past and present!

I hear people talk about the Bumpkins Difference – what is it?

The Bumpkins Difference is what makes us special – it’s how we care for our babies and children and always go the extra mile to make a difference to your child. Here are some elements of the Bumpkins difference.
